Buuuf, este Levi... [heavy]

my first post on the Boards forum, a little tricky for someone commenting from a brand, as I know from other forums there are more than enough posters just waiting to take a shot at the industry. Having said that I really enjoy the Boards forum, including all negative and positive comments. A little background before someone writes me off as the classic German, I´m actually a South African with a UK passport, so beware, despite the German surname...:)

Every now and again I have felt the itch to reply to various topics here impacting my brand, Fanatic. After 15 years with the brand as a Racer and now as Brand Manager, it´s hard not to take the comments personally, even if most is tounge in cheek I know. However I would just like to clear up this issue re Fanatic team comings/going, as it impacts me on a personal level, as I do all team communication and negotiation personally. This means I have a quite close personal relationship to all of my riders, making any terminations of contracts a difficult issue.

Firstly and very clearly, Dan, Ben and Arnon were all not offered new contracts, due to costs having to be reduced, a very difficult situation, but not really uncomnon if we look at the other brands or the general market situation. This decision was made long before Marcilio Browne´s negotiations even took place. So there is no question of swapping 3 or 4 riders to get one new one. The reasons for Marcilio leaving Mistral are quite complex and have to do with the repositioning of that brand, the fact is however we decided to take him on board, by cutting costs in other areas and by having a special budget available by our management.

As to Marcilio himself, I think you could not find a more loyal and professional rider amongst many out there, for sure the decision to change was a big one for him and I expect, that as with many of the Fanatic riders, that he will have a long future with us and North Sails, see Gollito/Klaas/Victor/Nayra/Jonas etc

I´m sure there will be some posts after this "commenting" on our team, cost custting etc, but I´m also quite sure you won´t find too many brand managers commenting on team policy here, plus pls remember we do see the complete picture of a riders performance in a wider perspective to most posters.

Good winds to all of you, just back from Cape Town and always good to be back on the water....
