Jaume dijo:Hello,
I have a Search 2004 6.2 with a Matrix X5 430. I have sailed some days in freestyle conditions and the sail feels very soft, especially in the head section. When I pump the sail its twisting too much ( seems it's going to break the mast !!! ) and when going through the chop I feel the mast is bending too much and head flaps too much. On landings on small jumps I also see the mast not reacting too good.
Why it's the 430 +40 cm extension recommended? .. I have tried with a friends Matrix X5 460 and sail works A LOT BETTER (even on wave conditions for 6.2 sail).
I think that the 430 x5 is not stiff enough for the search 6.2 ... what are your oppinions?
I'm not feeling confident using this sail with 430 +40 cm extension.
Thanks for your help.
Kevin Ozee dijo:Aloha,
I absolutely prefer the 6.2 on the 430. I use my 6.2 for light wind wave sailing, so I rig it full. I need the softer feel of the 430 to control the extra power when riding the wave. Excellent for pumping and for releasing the power on cutbacks.
Yes, it is less stable than the 6.2 on the 460, on the top end. But I can still control it because it is so much softer.
For those thinking on using RDM masts, the RDM is far too soft for a sail with such full shape. The 6.2's potential is wasted with an RDM. Smaller sizes of this sail model with less shape may be fine on an RDM, but a 6.2 is not, in my opinion.
The reason the 6.2 is used on a 430 is that the Search is a wave sail and should therefore be used with a wave mast. Our current line does not include a 460 mast as this is quite a rare mast size for the waves. If you want you can use any of the 460's in our line but be careful in the waves as these are not wave masts and are not designed to withstand wave conditions. I recommend simply sticking with the 430 wave masts.
Best regards, Kevin
